I never thought I would switch to Sony. I didn’t particularly think they had bad cameras. But I think you make the best images when you are familiar with the camera you use. Perhaps it’s because I’m a creature of habit.

While I was still shooting with a Canon my dad had already switched to a Sony mirrorless camera a few years ago when he purchased the NEX-7 (the predecessor to the current a6000 series).

I tried it. I hated the menu. I hated the controls. It was foreign to me. I knew how to quickly adjust what I wanted to with my Canon.

But being a parent pushed me to make the switch. I found myself struggling to try and use and operate the Canon DSLR with one hand while trying to wrangle or even hold my toddler. Now that I’ve switched, I am glad. The size and weight are worth it. I do also enjoy the dynamic range of the Sony camera as well.

Am I committed to the brand? Am I a devotee for life? I don’t think so. But Sony is where I’ll be for now.
