Lately I have been itching to go back out and shoot. I have been watching videos by Jerry Ghionis as well as Michael Sasser. I consider Jerry Ghionis to be one of the best when it comes to photography, photography education, and wedding photography in particular. Michael Sasser, originally from Denver, began his photography career shooting weddings but has since transitioned to Boudoir photography. He also runs a popular YouTube channel about Boudoir photography and has made several courses regarding this subject as well.

I’ve been watching their videos over the last year and watching both of these educators has been really inspiring. And right now, in the midst of a pandemic, I am itching to get back to shooting again.

As an introvert, photography was something that I found I could do alone. And this is true when you are shooting landscapes. But it is hard to shoot portraits alone. I mean, you have to actually work with other people. I think this is why I have historically shied away from portraiture even though I find it very interesting as a type of photography. There is a different element in looking at a portrait and so much can be conveyed with subtle changes.

My plan was to get more involved with group shoots. I had joined a few new Facebook groups earlier this year but then the 2020 COVID-19 lockdowns started and group meetups kind of went out the window.

So now I wait. And while I wait I’ll continue trying to learn more about this art and craft.
